Data-Driven PR

Thanksgiving travel trends, November 2022: Forbes, Newsweek, TODAY Show

At Waze, I worked as Communications Manager for North America, managing two PR agencies and supporting the EMEA and LATAM regions with newsjacking strategies.

For the PR push around Thanksgiving, I examined the stories and outlets that covered Thanksgiving traffic in the previous year. Then, to find a compelling angle for our top media markets, I pulled, analyzed, and synthesized data on traffic trends in major cities and helped the PR agency shape a media release and approach to pitching top and mid-tier media.

As the Media and Communications Advisor at the Cancer Council of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia, I created a PR package to generate media interest around the launch of our integrated social marketing campaign that targeted young women to encourage regular cervical screening.

I prepared a media release using new, surprising statistics about the low rates of screening in the state and added human interest by pre-interviewing, media training, and making a survivor available for interviews. I pitched the story to top-tier press and TV news journalists, landing a TV news package that was syndicated nationally and stories in the two top papers in the state.
